The amount of hoops someone close to me has to jump through to get reimbursed after travelling to a workshop she was invited to is nothing short of insanity. Seeing academia, as a facility for academics, lock the equivalent of a month's pay behind byzantine regulations is backward, immoral and unbecoming an institution that claims to be dedicated to advancing knowledge.
