Just bought this late '30s Streamline Moderne style clock for $15.
I'm told it's broken, but I'll try to fix it.
this is such a tiny detail, but i always thought it added so much atmosphere and sense of place to king's quest v
in the floppy disk edition of the game, when you enter the area adjacent to the village, the carnivalesque music plays at an almost-inaudible volume. the moment you step into the village proper, suddenly the music is loud and lively.
this type of cinematic effect is commonplace now, but in 1990 it was pretty much unheard of. the next time i would see it used was in Monkey Island 2 with iMUSE, and in Ultima VII: The Black Gate.
side note: i absolutely love the bird's nest painted on the rooftops at such a high angle, uncommon in adventure games
