@RickiTarr Her name was Sophie. 15, goofing around at a party. She was a friend I was really close to. And she was showing off to a boy she liked, so she wasn't serious about it. I... was. I wasn't before that moment, but something clicked. And I kissed back. She pushed me back and ran off. I felt bad and left for home. 🥺😔😫 I felt like I crossed a line.

Put simply, that week I wound up getting voted out of Student Council mid year. It was a Middle School first, I was the Council Secretary for 8 weeks after the election. I made my Mom both proud and then ashamed in under three months. Most teenagers pace their parental disappointment! (Back then, of course. We're much better now.) Sophie, our Council President, had an otherwise great year. I lost track what happened after that, she moved to AR before High School.

But looking back, I am grateful for the hurt. Because if it didn't happen, I wouldn't have questioned myself after wearing the lesbian hat for a couple of years and learned since it never quite fit me... nor would I have met my current best friend three years later. 💜😁
