20 November 1945 | The 1st Nuremberg Trial started. 24 political & military leaders of the German Third Reich were tried. Twelve were sentenced to death.

The purpose of the trial was not just to convict the defendants but also to assemble evidence of Nazi crimes, offer a history lesson to the defeated Germans, and delegitimize the traditional German elite.

It's Sunday morning in my corner of the world so I want to talk about - not a cathedral this time - but a chapel.

La Sainte Chapelle in Paris might be confused for one of the grand cathedrals built at the time from its photos - obviously its builders spared no expense - but it isn't! A private chapel for the royal family, built to house thorns from Christ's crown, it stands as an unrivaled spectacle of Rayonnant Gothic architecture.
