@lolennui Or a podcast. Videos and podcasts have their place, but they are hugely inefficient in the transmission of information compared to text.

@llebrun Perhaps, but it's a smaller problem than it is at Twitter, where if you get booted there's no recourse. A mastodon user can go to another server. Ideally it would be a chastened user starting over; but if they have been unjustly treated, then maybe it's the server they came from that eventually gets a bad reputation.

IDK, it's just a theory, I'm new here too.

The end of Magic Twitter feels like senior year of high school. The pretty ones are gonna go to IG, emo kids to Tumblr, nerds to Discord, and theatre kids to TikTok. Soon we’re all gonna end up somewhere else and it’ll sink in that this is the last time we’ll all be together.

@JamesGleick @jfallows Is it not likely that the NYT deliberately emphasized the risks that the Dems were facing in the midterms to get out the vote with a little constructive panic? Not exactly what you look for in a leading newspaper, but maintaining journalistic objectivity around American politics seems especially challenging and the Times sailed with that ship years ago.

"Short-term mask requirements, based on clear metrics and targets, & with the provision of high-quality masks to families, can make a big difference. That will keep kids and staff in school and parents at work."

Finally, a real study to counter all the handwaving.

Turns out that masking in schools does prevent COVID transmission.
