narrative / interaction design | one of those 'academics' who snuck into development

I made a small game about dinosaurs and footcare for AdventureJam with flesk, @kednar and @milapi

Linux, Mac and Windows builds can be found here http://gamejolt.com/games/the-farrier/257216

I wrote some words about its development here https://www.patreon.com/posts/small-game-11283073

We used the F/OSS tools and also released the source code https://github.com/Cheeseness/the-farrier

WILL MY PRIVACY EVER BE SAFE

said the guy who uses his clear name almost everywhere

Fun thing of the day was getting tweets/replies from students on twitter before ever meeting them - how long till they figure out I'm on mastodon, too?

Six more lessons to go, next ones will be a lot more structured.

I'm thinking 1. Analysis, 2. Reverse Engineering, 3. Narrative/Choice, 4. Twine Jam 5. GameFeel/Juice 6. Pico-8 Jam

And A LOT of small practical exercises in between.

Taught my first lesson in game design today and I have to say it went a lot better than my panicked self expected.
I basically rambled on about the games industry, the history of games and my experience making games for 2-3 hours.
Then we did the typical Zimmermann TicTacToe Hacking for an hour. Great motivation by them. Lols were had. All was well.

Moving out next week. Time to throw away some memories. First, my hippie punk belt from when I was 16. (wait) it's so shiny... (you might need this) I can really see myself wearing this again! (give in to the fantasy) into the moving box it goes (yeeesss)

no. better yet, I should wear this to my first time teaching a game design course next friday! (wait what) all the kids will think I'm super cool! (too far!) *distantsmile* (*facepalm*)

Interested in innovative concepts and/or sound-based games? Why not take a looklisten at this new teaser for WHISPER - a game which I helped design a bit and wrote the placeholder story for.

You can also download the demo straight away!

Services I feel pretty locked into, ie switching would have a very high time/convenience cost with no clear replacement:
- Google (gmail + hangouts + maps)
- Twitter
- Dropbox
- Paypal
Services I feel pretty okay about walking away from in 2017:
- Instagram
- Steam
- Amazon
Services I'm actively happy using:
- Signal
- Bandcamp
- Simple (bank)
- itch.io
[startup] had a staircase with a glass wall beneath it, which people kept walking into. They decided to make the space under the stairs a ball pit, because ball pits are cool and people would then see the glass. Except they made a fake ball pit on the cheap by filling the space with boxes and putting ball pit balls on top and around the sides. Inside, the boxes were warm and dark, so in no time at all they had rats and their fake ball pit was filled with piss and shit.
