Irgendwas muss man doch tun
Hat Martha Root gesagt
Ja, irgendwas muss man doch tun

All of this makes me think about the thing Hannah Arendt said about propaganda: That it's goal is not to make the audience believe something but to make the audience stop believing in anything, no matter where it comes from.

So I feel like I want to appeal to my audience (in case anybody is reading this) to not fall into that trap and keep believing in some things.

Reality still exists outside of your phone. Do not stop believing in it.

The next iteration of this narrative is that ISIS is not real, but merely a false flag operation by the USA.

And to me this feels like the moment where me watching videos of a standup comedy show on youtube all of a sudden becomes more than innocent comedy - all these narratives melting into another do seem to transport a bigger narrative into the minds of the audience and it does lead into a direction that makes me very uncomfortable.

I do not know any more than you or any other person on the internet so I do not know if Epstein killed himself or not. But a lot of people are very sure he did not.

For some this train of thought stops at "Epstein was murdered", for others it goes on in the direction "Epstein did not die". The plot-line Sammy Obeid keeps "joking" about is that Epstein worked for the Mossad and is still alive and hiding in Israel. Which is already wild, but it gets worse.

I keep watching his videos because I feel like they give me an impression of where these conspiracy myths that he is reproducing are leading towards, just to, you know, keep an overview of what myths are circulating and maybe becoming more popular.

A huge topic is of course the Epstein case. And somehow this helped me articulate a feeling of suspicion about the "Epstein didn't kill himself" Meme that I had since 2019 now but could not specify.

By now I have developed fascination for how these conspiracy plot-lines in his comedy develop. Telling them in the narrative of jokes is pretty effective as it does create plausible deniability - it is not a conspiracy myth, it is just a joke! You can not say anything against a joke, can you? But still it feels like it is aimed at an audience that is maybe less skeptical than I am. These are jokes but once the laughter stops the connections stay in the heads of the audience.
A while ago the almighty YouTube algorithm introduced me to the standup comedian Sammy Obeid. In the first video I watched he made a lot of math jokes and that resonated well with my sense of humor, so I watched some more. The more I watched the clearer it became to me that a huge portion of his content is actually just telling conspiracy myths in a funny way. In a way that does make me laugh a lot, I have to admit. But it also scares me so much I am writing this post about it.
