15 murders have taken place in January - five of those in one day. This makes 4 consecutive months under 20 murders. Projecting the annual total from one month is a shaky proposition but January is also part of a recent downward trend so maybe not. It would be 177, down 33% from 2023.
Going a full year without 30 killings in a month and 3 straight months of under 20 killings are both benchmarks not met for the entire Mosby-Hogan murder epidemic.
The final 3 months of 2023 were all under 20 killings. If the average for that quarter holds for all of 2024 that would be 204 killings in a year, which would be a 22% drop from 2023.
The final number of homicides recorded in Baltimore in 2023 was 262. That's a 21.8% reduction from 2022. Nationwide there was a large drop in 2022, but the city was immune to the national fluctuations in violent crime during the pandemic. Something happened.
Here is the Christmas song I wrote lo these 13 years ago. My friends do a ton of great and funny christmas music, check them out.

Quit my job yesterday. 2 years with no cost of living increase and they expect me to take a pay cut. Bye.
November is another milestone in homicide reductions in Baltimore - we now have two consecutive months which did not reach 20 homicides. It's been 5 years since that happened. Projected annual total is now 264, a 21% reduction over 2022.
if the pace of homicides in baltimore since October 1 continues for the balance of the year the city will have under 250 murders in 2023.
It's pretty common for the Sun to update numbers from the weekend on Tuesdays so this could all change but right now there are fewer murders in October than any month in the previous 7 years. If October ends with 13 the pro rated total will go back under 270. It would also mark the 3rd stretch of at least 5 days with no killings in October.
Here's my bold prediction for the end of 2023: we will experience a supernova bright enough to be seen in daylight before the end of this year.
