@jamesjefferies @25kV My kids (aged 2 and 4) hate the noise. They won't use hand dryers, and they get upset if I or their mum use them too. Paper towels are effectively silent.

We have a travel towel on the changing bag, but that doesn't work so well if we're taking both kids to the toilet at the same time. Also it often isn't dry by the next visit!

@darmato You can (and traditionally should) thicken the carbonara sauce with egg but even I've learned to do it with the heat off, just using the heat from the pan/pasta/bacon.
@darmato Mmmm, cheesy scrambled egg!

@GarethDennis Is the late announcement of trains at Euston - precipitating the rush that is so dangerous - a standard operating procedure to allow the train operators this kind of shenanigans?

This could of course be a data or display issue, that the change was in fact known longer in advance.

@GarethDennis All the charm and grace of a municipal multistory car park. You want to scream LIGHT at them.

I've noticed a trend - looking at historical information on Real Time Trains - for Avanti West Coast to apparently change which diagram a train is allocated to when it's sitting in the platform at Euston. For example, on Friday, the 0807 arrival into Platform 6 (1R09, 390130) isn't shown as an alteration: but the 0830 departure (1S45, same unit) *is*.

@darmato That's actually worse than the time - must be 25 years ago now - when a group of us uni students went to Manzil's in Digbeth, Birmingham, UK. Somehow the CD player got stuck on repeat, playing Breakfast At Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something. Over. And over. And over again.

It was a good couple of hours before I struck up the courage to say something.

@malwaretech Huh. I saw articles claiming that the RoboTaxi was basically the same car as the supposedly more affordable "Model 2". If so, that's another one I'm never buying.

Why is it always the fucking doors, Elon? Why can't you just have normal doors that don't freeze shut, open properly from the inside when the battery is dead, and don't require an acre of space on either side?

Now *sliding* doors would be great. They're brilliant for getting my kids in and out of our Ford Grand C-Max.

@Badgardener @davidallengreen Sunak must have known that the prisons would reach capacity, and that they had already spent the vast majority of the departmental limits. There were definitely times during the campaign where he seemed to be doing his best to throw the election.
@davidallengreen I thought there was a power for the Sovereign to move the polling day by up to 7 days earlier/later, but that's only in the case of the Demise of the Crown, and acts to change the statutory 14-day delay of polling day. In other words, if the King pops his clogs we could get another 7-21 days of this.

@iinavpov @davidallengreen Clause 4 of the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022: Automatic dissolution of Parliament after five years

"If it has not been dissolved earlier, a Parliament dissolves at the beginning of the day that is the fifth anniversary of the day on which it first met." That would be 17 December 2024.
