I set up my first gaming PC running Linux in 21 years today.

It's now much easier.

Plug in USB stick, boot, install, reboot. The Ubuntu app store had Steam, and Nvidia drivers auto installed... all the audio, trackpad on the laptop etc just worked out of box.

The usual Steam GUI and most games work with zero effort, it auto installs a compatibility layer so Windows versions just.. uhm.. work.

It's really impressive.

My training at Black Hat was cancelled, then "uncancelled" two weeks later. I said no. I won't be training, speaking, or attending. If you got rejected this year: you're in good company; I was too. Keep applying to conferences, but invest your energy in the ones that are actually investing in you.

2/3 Mechner recounts discovering that even major archives can vanish, forcing creators to rely on enthusiasts and chance discoveries to recover lost history.

When “historical oblivion is the default, not the exception,” what survives is often what individuals decide to save, not what institutions guarantee.

🧵1/3 What if the history of games, films, and culture disappears not because it is lost… but because no one is allowed to keep it? 🎮⚠️

Jordan Mechner, creator of Prince of Persia & pioneering video game designer, reflects on how fragile cultural memory becomes when preservation depends on luck rather than systems.
