Seeing the subway busy like this at midnight makes me so happy.
The death of the NYC payphone has been greatly exaggerated
Staten Island kind of day
And afterwards twitter was crucial in spreading the word and getting support. And I'm not exagerating -- for a little while this map was actually being used by people in my small country. I got to go on Croatian cable news lol https://youtu.be/J-8QDO7Ed30

We used twitter to track updates and corrections. But without twitter this project never would have started -- I got inspired to do it after getting annoyed at my interactions with a 🇭🇷 gov run twitter account that was supposed to be providing this precise info, and they weren't
This was emotionally intense work. For a number of months I called and emailed hospitals around 🇭🇷 trying to keep this info up to date. The response was amazing, so many people wanted to help. It was a completely different time from where we are now.
But I helped run internet infrastructure we set up with @[email protected]. Since power was unreliable, we used twitter to report downtime. The camp was soon after evicted by the NYPD and our equipment was stolen and destroyed.

The next was @[email protected]. In the summer of 2020 during the uprising against racism and police killings of Black folks in America I was at NYC City Hall where we were asking to take funds from the NYPD and fund city services.

We failed and this did not happen.

I am archiving the different accounts and bots I ran on Twitter over the years. The first is @[email protected]

I put together a RPi with gps, camera and wifi that I would use to snap pics of cars in the bike lane, grab the locations and post it on twitter. Its github is https://github.com/mejs/bike-lane-report

This board helps your Orao computer get online via WiFi, or by just giving you rs232 serial you can use with a real modem. This project is finally done, so I'm shipping some boards to the few people who actually have an Orao computer. If you're not familiar with it, it's a 1980s school computer from Yugoslavia. I used to maintain a twitter thread about it, which I'll turn into a blog post now that I'm out of there. Info about this project is available on my GitHub: https://github.com/mejs/orao
