Lastly, while we wring our hands over the spectre of friendlies using submunitions, their misuse in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos at the forefront of our reasoning, we might actually be able to witness their use on the battlefield, as intended, against actual bad guys to great effect, finally.

This war must end in Russian defeat.

War is not an inherently moral enterprise. The moratorium on this or that disappears when you're on the receiving end of an invasion.
If Russia had refrained from using cluster munitions against Ukraine from the start this might not have become an issue.
Unfortunately the West is playing catch-up.
For those concerned about the US supplying cluster munitions to Ukraine I have to ask why they think 1) that the ZSU would fire them at populated urban centres or 2) how their application in any way enormously increases the danger to civilians in what is arguably the most-mined region on earth.

Ben Roberts-Smith loses defamation case, with judge finding former SAS soldier committed war crimes

Justice Anthony Besanko found newspapers established substantial or contextual truth of allegations of murders of unarmed civilians in Afghanistan

Also, the fact that the domestic violence accusations against him were not considered defamatory given the more heinous established war crimes is darkly funny.
Bro, you murdered six people. We guess you're probs a wife-beater too.
Ben Robert-Smith's actions were like those you'd have expected from a sociopathic conscript. If your most talented soldiers can't even refrain from murdering civilians then it's possible the regiment requires a bit of modernisation.
We love seeing a Victoria Cross recipient being ruled as a war criminal by the Federal Court in a defamation case he started, don't we folks.
