The chair, the wig and the sheep: The portable universe
Mediamatic, Thursday, July 2 at 07:30 PM GMT+2
What if everything in a radically neoliberal society was shaped by human labor instead of technology?
Pull up a chair with artist Rosa Vrij, who personally guides you through a fictional universe contained within a small suitcase. This "capitalist fairy tale" unfolds through miniatures, music boxes, comic drawings and documents.
Free Entrance - RSVP
In this capitalist fairy tale, acrobats play the role of furniture; politicians play pool all day long; teenagers launch themselves as brands during the Wig Ceremony; consumption is encouraged by dancing advertising teams on roller skates; and a resistance group of the Wigless attempts to change the system.
It is a playful, humorous exaggeration of our own reality, designed to make the absurdity of modern logic literally palpable. In a world driven by efficiency, this performance is a counterweight of meticulous handiwork and a much-needed ode to the collective imagination.

Have a look back with us at the beautiful event that was HABITS.
Last Friday, Mediamatic opened its new residency period with HABITS: 12 consecutive hours of rituals. The program was filled with lots of performance art, rituals, design, food and music that brought together over 500 visitors!

Hello Mastodon! This is our first post here ☺️ We made it out of the Meta maze (well, partially, we are not quite ready yet for our exodus unfortunately)...
Together with @hoonhoning who went into full experimental research mode for his graduation project at the HvA Creative Business, we started exploring what it actually means to communicate beyond the platforms we’ve all gotten so used to (read: Meta).

In the coming weeks we’ll share what we’ve been trying; what works, what fails, and what new forms of connection might look like when you step outside the algorithm
Thank you Hoon for the great collaboration!

Stickers by @hoonhoning
Over the past months @hoonhoning researched alternative ways of communicating, and the psychology behind our social media behavior. And he came up with some great ideas. Think: offline signals, a sticker campaign, unexpected encounters, communication you don’t scroll past but physically run into. Definitely harder than typing a message and hitting send, but much more intentional. And we won’t sponsor the big tech companies with our data.

We’re not per se looking for a new place to post, we’re testing different ways of being visible and in contact with each other. Maybe it’s time to relearn smoke signals? Or share our program in the city center, standing on a bucket, shouting about workshops and events? Are people still reading newsletters? How can we still run a successful program when we can't reach our 25k followers, just like that?
