The Liberal Party’s new Shadow Arts Spokesperson is threatening to use arts funding to coerce and bully artists who express views they don't agree with.

Last time the Coalition was in power, they cut the independent Australia Council out of loop and tried to dictate who was worthy of funding through the Arts Minister’s office. The result was cuts across the board which meant artists lost work, seasons were cancelled, and independent arts organisations closed their doors.

The majority of the SBS House Committee stands resolutely with Antoinette Lattouf and joins her in calling on ABC management to apologise and reinstate her position.

The MEAA Freelance committee is alarmed and deeply concerned at information released to the public during recent court proceedings concerning the treatment of Antoinette Lattouf by the ABC and reports concerning other journalists whose employment has allegedly been terminated for sharing personal views and factual material on social media regarding Palestine.

The ABC must commission an independent inquiry into the broadcaster’s independence from outside interference and apologise for allowing external pressure to influence the dismissal of Antoinette Lattouf and attempts to have other journalists sacked.

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, January 26 marks the beginning of colonisation, dispossession, and ongoing injustices.
Celebrating on this date overlooks the truth of our history and perpetuates the harm felt by First Nations people. Instead, this day can be an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the deep and lasting impacts of colonisation, to listen to First Nations voices, and to commit to meaningful change.

This week, #MEAAmedia members at Crikey, Smart Company and The Mandarin voted to endorse a new freelance agreement with Private Media.
The improvements to this agreement represent an important step forward in securing the quality jobs needed to continue to deliver quality journalism.

Union membership and EBA coverage have increased over the last two years, meaning better wages and conditions for more workers.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the recent MEAA Gaza Journalist appeal.
We raised over $15,000 that will provide basic food and health supplies for journalists in Gaza and their families.
