It’s common to warn against prematurely optimizing early-stage web apps, with the mantra that you aren’t gonna need it. This is duality correct advice. But the other week at constellate.org we ran into a case where yeah, actually we did need to redesign something because of scaling issues! http://matthewlincoln.net/2024/05/05/elasticsearch-slow-aggregations.html

An article on the JSTOR Access in Prisons initiative, and my firecracker coworker Stacy Burnett who makes so much of it happen: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/students/academics/2024/03/01/jstor-expands-access-incarcerated-students Normal people would look at the extreme technical and process barriers to this and quail; she's just like, sure why *not* roll this out to a million people.
JSTOR expands access to incarcerated students

Doing research on JSTOR is a routine part of many students’ college experience. Now that opportunity is available to hundreds of thousands of incarcerated people.

@mebrett the code4lib.slack.com is also an awesome resource for python / ruby / API learners as well! Probably a great second step after doing some starting API practice on the other resources in this thread - folks there will be able to talk more about ASpace-specific things. And they're super welcoming!
