@urbanistorg I just don't understand why Sound Transit elevators and escalators are so plagued with problems. There also seems to be no maintenance: the stairs to Seneca & 3rd at the University Street Station are filthy with garbage, urine and graffiti every time I use them, and I swear I have walked by suspicious dealings on them. It contrasts unfavorably with all the other subways I have used in other places: NYC, Paris, Caracas...and I love Seattle and really want to be a fan.

"Every year, states spend billions of dollars expanding highways while other solutions to congestion, like public transit and pedestrian projects, are usually handled by city transit authorities and receive less funding." And like protected bike lanes, cycle tracks, and multi-use paths.

Widening Highways Doesn’t Fix Traffic. So Why Do We Keep Doing It?

With billions of dollars available to improve transportation infrastructure, states have a chance to try new strategies for addressing congestion. But some habits are hard to break.

@JamesLonghurst wow, 1942!
@urbanistorg I so wish there were something like this to protect bike lanes too!
@GordonOfSeattle yes, time to clear Pike Place Market of cars!
