Another call for work! Hire me to manage the stuff you have connected to the internet, regardless of operating system (yes, even that one), support status (new, current, or legacy hardware and software) or location. Server, desktop, mobile, embedded.
Out of the cloud, into the cloud, from that cloud to that other cloud, on-prem, in a local datacenter; you name it, I know how to do it, and will maintain it for as long as you need it.
I will even give you a 20% discount on your first invoice if you contract me for recurring work via this here fediverse!
Boosts welcome, see linked thread for details.
OK, since tariffs fuckery is impacting my bottomline faster than I expected, with multiple clients having projects cancelled and being late with paying their invoices to the point where it is starting to become my problem, a renewed call for ops consulting and systems maintenance work. I have just updated the company website with a link to the rate card in PDF format; https://www.ur.nl Direct link; https://www.ur.nl/support/urcbv-services-and-fees-2025.pdf What follows is a thread detailing the options you have for engaging my help with computers, networks, or basically anything of a technical nature. Boosts welcome! — Updated the rate card based upon feedback, will add some practical examples to the end of the thread as well ⬇️ 2/ 🧵 #GetFediHired
"After September 30, 2025, access to Typepad – including account management, blogs, and all associated content – will no longer be available." https://distlib.blogs.com/distlib/2025/08/typepad-shutdown-announcement.html
I'm taking this to mean that any typepad-based blog will be disappearing from the Internet in just over a month. If you're interested in any such blog (either because you maintained it or you've read or linked to it) you'll need to take action quickly to preserve it.
When I worked at the newspaper, I learned of something called "snake rules" -- rules with no justifiable rhyme or reason that everyone just follows because of a higher up's preferences. Supposedly the term derived from a paper having a rule that a photo of a snake could never appear on the front page because the publisher's wife didn't like snakes.
Many years later, I continue to encounter them in my career: A magazine that avoids the use of gerunds because a vice president just doesn't like gerunds. Replacing any instance of the word "ongoing" with "continuing" because the the word ongoing is a pet peeve of a president.
