Being a cop is dangerous. You're around cops all day.

Aside from the obvious disruption in communication with good friends we may have not met otherwise, the news aggregation, and abrupt loss of the ability to get joyfully blocked by famous people for telling them amazing jokes, one thing that really grates meā¦
ā¦these Elon simps that take joy in the elimination of all of those IT and related tech jobs. Check any Tim Pool tweet related to Twitter & check the comments from the stans⦠Iāve been in surprise downsizing before, and while there are many that will def bounce right into a new gig, most are going to be hustling and sweating⦠not a new position for anyone in the tech game, but at least in normal circumstances you can kinda gauge the climate and be prepared to jet once the boat looks like itās taking on too much water.
I mean, companies implode⦠but to see something so deliberate with a whole damn cheering section⦠look, engineers, programmers, customer service, all that⦠these arenāt limousine jobs! All of these careers are fueled by a level of anxiety, in and out of the office.
To see people gloat over working people getting their careers obliterated at the whim of a glorified investor is beyond me.
What are the rules for cursing on here?
In the wake of the five alarm fire at Twitter, a small, quiet social media alternative has been quietly attracting the tweeting weary. Mastodon, named for the prehistoric elephant relatives, was originally created by a German programmer named Eugen Rochko in 2016. And even though it shares similarities to its blue bird peer, the two platforms possess many differences. For one, Mastodon is organized by groups called "servers" or "instances," there's no universal experience like on Twitter. It's also completely decentralized ā each server is run by individuals or small groups ā with no overseeing company. But is it here to stay? This week, Brooke sits down with Clive Thompson, a tech journalist and author of the book Coders: The Making of a New Tribe and the Remaking of the World, to talk about why people like Mastodon, who it's for, and why we should watch its latest evolution. You can find Clive Thompson on Mastodon at @[email protected] and OTM by searching @[email protected].
1) Do not eat any food offered to you. Should a single grape or morsel pass your lips, you may find the path behind you has vanished and around your throat, a collar of servitude, to be worked off over thousands of years in the Dream Mines.
2) Do not give your true name. A name has power. Only use your true name in a DM to me, the only one who can cast the wards required to protect you in this realm. Be sure to attach a lock of your hair, electronically.
