German ballet director suspended over feces attack on critic

BERLIN (AP) — A German newspaper critic had animal feces smeared on her face in the city of Hannover by a ballet director who apparently took offense at a review she wrote. The Hannover state opera house apologized for the incident and said Monday that it was suspending ballet director Marco Goecke with immediate effect.

Can’t stop thinking about this exchange and @gruber’s response.

In school, we heard the word “gestalt” a lot. That a well-designed thing is more than the sum of its parts—product of an intentional commitment to art and utility.

If you’ve ever opened up a Mac, you’ve observed a commitment to the design of an object that’s more than an act of engineering or expression. If you’ve wondered why they wasted time on stuff you don’t see, you’re missing the point of art.
