Reports that macOS 15.5 frees up lots of disk space https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1km81zl/major_disk_space_freed_after_macos_155_update/ Has Apple secretly purchased @siracusa Hyperspace app and bundled it? #macOS #Apple
Filled in a form to get an insurance quote. Gave them info including name, date of birth and phone number. They then called and to "confirm" asked for my name and date of birth. I jokingly asked if they wanted my phone number. Surely this is security theatre?
@siracusa all this talk of RamDoubler and DiskDoubler on ATP triggered a memory of a time in the 90s when somoene released software that drastically sped up Finder copies. I was working at Apple at the time and we were amazed. It turned out that the Finder was updating the progress bar so frequently that it slowed down the file copy!

The Extremely Large Telescope is astronomy's next big thing

High in the Chilean desert, the Extremely Large Telescope is taking shape. It promises sharper views of space than we've ever seen — but will Australian astronomers be able to use it?
