Original examples of #KoreanWar service medals issued by (left) U.S.A., (middle) Britain, and (right) United Nations. (A version of the latter was given to all U.N. troops regardless of nation.)

This year, we will see the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement. To mark this, I am writing a piece for a magazine on the #KoreanWar. I am determined to continue to raise general awareness of the history of this conflict.

#OnThisDay (3 December 1854) The Battle of the #Eureka Stockade takes place in Victoria, Australia, killing 27. The clash was the culmination of a gold miners rebellion in #Ballarat against British colonial authority, protesting against taxation and lack of representation.

A 1950 dated 1949 Pattern Battledress Blouse badged to the Gloucestershire Regiment. The Glosters served during the Korean War as part of 29th Infantry Brigade and suffered heavy casualties at the Battle of the Imjin River in April 1951.

Men of the King's Own Scottish Borderers during the #KoreanWar. On the night of 4/5 Nov 1951 the KOSB were attacked by a Chinese division of 6,000 in Kowang-San. Their forward positions were overrun but the battalion held, suffering 31 killed, 90 wounded, and 20 made prisoners of war.

A platoon of #TheBlackWatch late during the #KoreanWar. The platoon commander is 2nd Lieutenant A.T. Baillie (extreme right). Although uniform and equipment had changed somewhat since the Second World War, weapons still included No.4 rifles and Stens etc.

A U.S. Army Bell H-13 Sioux and Commonwealth troops during the #KoreanWar. Entering service in 1946, it was the first helicopter to be operated by the U.S. military in large numbers. It was widely used for reconnaissance, search and rescue, and medevac.

March 1951: A wounded soldier is prepared for transport to a #MASH unit at Chechon, Korea. The revolutionary use of helicopters to evacuate battlefield wounded greatly helped increase survival rates during the #KoreanWar.

Norway deployed a #MASH unit during the #KoreanWar based on the U.S. model. Although it's core personnel were Norwegian, the unit comprised of staff of many nationalities. #NORMASH, as it was known, treated over 90,000 patients during its time of operation.

Aerial view of the 8055th #MASH in #Korea. According to Samuel Gelfand's memoirs, who served with the unit as a surgeon, the 8055th was established on a minefield. Part of it was cleared to make way for the MASH but many mines remained just outside its boundaries.
