In researching my latest novel, I came across this bizarre racism where museum curators and historians literally whitewashed ancient Greek statues.
They were originally painted yellow, red and black, as the Greeks had a variety of skin tones (including black, because of migration to the isles from North Africa - as genetics now confirms).
