its a common failing i think in software design that in order to adopt users, you have to make the transition comfortable

if you introduce too much comfort the value-add is invisible

introducing (even superficial) separation from supposedly inferior products signals that there's something new here, which is enticing to early-adopters

the more i think about it, i wonder if it could be a TUI (or TUI-like) with something akin to a tiling-window-manager style UI possible with different tabs (desktops)

probably the main regret i have with charisma (my failed css editor) was that i made it look too much like vs code

i shouldn't have done syntax highlighting and i should have had a much more cool retro snap to grid UI

i've been playing with https://flow-control.dev/ for personal coding, and using the CRT theme it is gorgeous even with syntax highlighting completely off (this picture has it on)

(excuse the 2015-redux inspired sample js)

i think i’m going to take a substantial break from software, and stop being active on here

if you want to keep in touch, i am active on instagram - @marcelle_r_loops, or dm for a chatting app like signal or w/e 🫡 🙏🤘❤️

after 2 months off from working on charisma, i think its safe to say the project is entering indefinite hiatus

i have made the project open source (https://github.com/feralsoft/charisma)

i still believe in the underlying ideas, and maybe one day i'll do a write up of the ideas + hopes & dreams

but i find i am at a point where i can no longer be distracted from trying to make a career out of music

i am making a website for paperhats, and i really enjoy programming when its purely for the purpose of creative fulfillment

there’s something about ignoring all best practices, and technical ideas of right and wrong to just create something you find beautiful

every time i apply the intermediate value theorem to fix a wobbly table, i feel like a god

the idea of competition in art is paradoxical

you cannot compete with other people, because you are not trying to be other people

the best i can say is i am the best at being marcelle in the world, my art reflects this

there is no such thing as “more beautiful”, only “also beautiful”

when i’m performing i realize a lot of what people connect to is the joy we have playing music together, and how important the performance is to us/me

it is a very strange thing, but the more personal it is, the more people can relate to it

why can’t software be the same? i think it can be, and every other method is deeply unfulfilling to me.
