I'm looking for a job in software development — pls boost! 🙏
About me: I'm a US-based software engineer with about a decade of experience in the industry.
I have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Tel Aviv U, & a PhD in Theoretical Linguistics from MIT. (See below.)
I worked as a software engineer during the decade from 1995 to 2005. For the last 15 years, however, I was an academic (most recently, tenured Associate Prof at the U of Maryland).
This past spring, I decided to leave academia, and move back into the tech sphere. Though my academic field was linguistics, it was of the rather abstract, armchair variety – and so I'm not necessarily looking for anything language-related in the tech world. (Though that would be fine too, of course.)
I'm versed in Python, Go, Java, Rust, C, and C++, and have basic familiarity with several other programming languages. I know my way around the sysadmin side of things, as well. I even know a good bit about processor design, from working at Intel for a bit back in the day.
I'm good at adapting to new challenges and I ramp up on new knowledge very quickly! But because of my non-orthodox résumé (last 15 years in academia & all that), it's not easy to find posted job ads for which I'm the ideal "on-paper" candidate. That's why I thought that posting this here, in addition to sending out résumés, might be helpful.

pictured: IBM Cassette BASIC(source) I'm a product of the generation where home PCs didn't have hard-drives yet, couldn't run very many games, and, when you turned them on without inserting a diskette (lol), they booted into an instance of [IBM Cassette BASIC](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_BASIC) that was built into their ROM. So out...
