Just a simple country lawyer.

I don't claim to be right, have any of the answers or anything like that. I try to be a better person everyday (knowing I stumble sometimes) but try to live by the mantra of "don't be a jerk." If you catch me being a jerk, tell me.

Patricia Neal didn't need to go that hard in The Homecoming. Amazing considering what she went through in life. My personal fav is Cleavon Little. Still a banger to this day. One of the most iconic endings & one I hope people are still watching.
Tomorrow is a very sad day for me. I lost someone very important in my life. This is a bad time of year for people struggling with mental illness & the current events, rhetoric, & general discourse RE anything does not help. Please seek help if you need it. You're not alone. Someone will miss you if you're gone. Things always can get better. If you have a loved one struggling w/ mental health issues be sure to stay in contact w/them. Let them know you care about them.
The "if you tax rich people out, they will just screw off with their millions and not bother creating jobs" is a weird line of logic. No one is saying tax them to the point of making no money, just less. If there is money to be made, I think the majority have shown they will make it because they are addicted to it. Otherwise they would have already screwed off to enjoy their wealth already.
On the lighter side - I hate cyber security classes that are mandatory but also not tailored to my profession. I get e-mails and messages 24/7 so don't say I failed to account that the e-mail was sent at "an odd time of the day." I've worked on Christmas Day for goodness sake. If your training module tells me to hover over a link but you fail to have it display anything, don't say I failed to hover over the link. I am not the problem here and I have never failed a phising test.
... anti-Semitic and I can hate Hamas while supporting Palestinians right to exist in peace. Two things can be sad/bad at once and I know I don't have the answer to anything but by golly, the answer cannot be to raze the ground regardless of who is attacked because "there is no other way" or to starve anyone else, innocents be damned.
I am always disappointed to realize the sheer number of people who act like... "well shucks.... I really hate to say it but I think the best thing to happen is for all of Palestine to be destroyed because otherwise there will never be an end to this conflict." When innocent people die (regardless of what "side") it is terrible. I can hate violence against Palestinians and Israelis. I can dislike Israeli govt decisions/policy without being anti-Israel or...
...for gun owners where you say you feared for your life I just hope we are not too late because all of this is in conjunction with the de-humanization of criminals, the criminalization of the homeless, and the outright refusal to address the actual roots of the crime problems in this country and just throw more cops at it.
...dangerous to all parties involved when a domicile is broken into (you wake people up in a startle), you expect someone to be living in it, etc., and why you cannot use it when someone is breaking into your barn or a detached building where people do not live without further escalation. We have reached a point where too large a portion of this country thinks it is ok to jump straight to shoot first and ask questions later/just read the card given to you by legal groups ...
... No one is saying a criminal cannot be punished or that you don't have the right to defend yourself. Quite the contrary as even states that require a retreat and/or proportional escalation still allow self-defense claims. There is a reason that spring guns/booby traps are nearly universally banned in the US and have been for some time. Deadly force is not there to protect stuff but people. The reason you can use it when someone breaks in is because it is inherently...
...However, since we are bombarded daily with the idea that anyone, everywhere, at all times is a deadly threat, many people earnestly believe any form of perceived threat, actual or otherwise, is justification for another citizen or the state to just shoot someone to kill. People think that it is ok to shoot people just to protect property now (not talking about entering your domicile but robbing cars or a clearly empty building. We are seeing it with property that is not the aggressor's...
