Social theory is full of quirky, thought-provoking essays. A good example of this genre is Andrew Abbott's "The problem of excess", which sees him adopt one of his many heuristics - making a reversal (2004: 121) - to argue that "the central problematic of human affairs is not dealing with scarcity, but dealing with excess" (2014:1): https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0735275114523419
