YES DUBLIN! Thanks for giving me my best sighting yet of this tiny king. And I've never had long-tailed tits get so close to me!
#birdloveKeep your removable flags, we mean business!
#Dublin #pridemonthThere’s a huge amount of info in here, but this fact packs a punch: the notion of “fine art” was created in the 18th century, basically to exclude the creative activities of women, non-European culture and of course the “lower classes”.
#arthistoryRecovering from my flight & reading this essential reference untangling the history of the concept of art & putting current definitions in perspective. Not only were there NO artists during the Renaissance, as we understand the word, but it was also when women started being pushed out of these professions.
#arthistoryI gave up Duolingo cold turkey when I reached my 1000 day streak, now the app looks like it’s having a meltdown…
Between the viewing angle and the glossy nature of the silk, the colours are ever-changing and can'tbe pinned down. The overall composition forms the Arabic word Qubul, "to receive kindly and graciously", which reflects the original Japanese concept and expresses my gratitude to the plants.
This piece was inspired by the work and above all the philosophy of Fukumi Shimura, Japanese dyer and weaver, who speaks about dyeing with plants being an act of "receiving colour". Over several months, I used plant matter that presented itself to me to dye silk and linen thread without expectation, and stitched them on paper in the order I found them. (ct'ed)
Reposting on this brand-new profile: the last #art piece I finished (before getting swallowed up by writing a book): Receiving Grace.
Silk and linen threads, dyed with found #plantdyes and stitched on Khadi paper. 34x68 cm.

I've just moved over here from my previous profile (
@majnouna) not realising my previous posts would be left behind, doofus that I am. Maybe just as well, I'll repost that last artwork here and then start afresh.
