Theakston Old Peculier. Tasting gorgeous.
I think this is about as close as you can legally get to Barnwell Castle. I went there on Saturday after Oundle Christmas Market.
Two boxes of beer. Cheers.
Not the usual angle of The Monument.
Book 105 of 2024. Shortlisted for the Booker this year as well as various other prizes. I found a proof copy in a charity shop in Daventry of all places. Don’t think it’s actually out in paperback yet. I was unaware this is a collection of loosely linked short stories. I’m not particularly a fan of shorts but these are good especially the first one which could have progressed to a full length novel. Can’t see this winning the prize but stranger things have happened.
New coffee has arrived. Praise be.
The Cenotaph and The Women of WWII monument yesterday in the sunshine.
Book 104 of 2023. Longlisted for this year’s Booker. A beautiful book about a young autistic boy whose mother died in childbirth. The relationships he has with various adults are described so well.
Book 103 of 2023. Shortlisted for this year’s Booker. The retelling of an island community off the coast of Maine in the late 19th century deemed to be lawless and certainly unwanted. Intelligent writing by a Pulitzer winning author.
The grade 1 listed churches in Crick, Yelvertoft and West Haddon. Taken yesterday.
