Maybe the world isn’t full of absolutes?
Maybe there would have been a 10% lower probability of war with Harris, and 80% higher probability of better protection of human rights?
If you are only capable of treating every magnitude of behavior equally, you’ll repeatedly end up with poor outcomes. You need a weighting mechanism that isn’t binary.
Moreover, you have to choose those that are most likely to align with your desired outcome, even if they don’t qualify based on your purity test. Otherwise, you’re just part of the, “I’ve got a number of strong opinions, but I’m going to do jack dick to move in that direction because that candidate isn’t perfect” crowd.
Good ol’ “anchoring tactics” to make the discussion about 15 year olds.
The youngest documented age was 14 in criminal investigation, and those investigations have been repeatedly criticized.
The youngest alleged victims, in civil court filings, are 11.
So, let’s stop talking about 15 year olds. Let’s discuss 11 year olds. I’m assuming the Overton window will be shifted by bots to talk about how it was pre-1800s.
I happen to have a career which puts me in contact with a good number of people who say things like, “Have you seen Bob’s daughter? She doesn’t look like she is 14…you’d think she was 23.” As if that’s some form of rational thought process for their inability to stop sexualizing young girls.
Our lizard brains think a ton of stupid shit If you’re well adjusted, you turn off those thoughts, or minimally don’t say them out loud.
You’re not wrong with your opinion but your context is.
