The conversion is clear. You are no longer the beneficiary of JetBrains' community benevolence. You are now a subject to their corporate greed. I feel for instructors that use JetBrains in their curriculum... If they have an ounce of integrity, they have a lot of work to do to get them to use VSCode instead.

It's a bad look for Software Engineering, and JetBrains knows it.

Forced adoption targets non-commercial users. Opt-out should be default for any “personal” data. JetBrains wants to train its AI—fine—but doing so this way feels dystopian.

A clear warning should appear before editing: "we collect detailed IDE activity, incl. code snippets, prompts, and AI responses."

Default-on data sharing while claiming transparency is disingenuous and bad for security. Sad to see JetBrains sell out its integrity. #AI #legal #jetbrains #privacy
