Okay, I got everything off my chest now.

Bed time

You have long hair because you like having long hair.

I have long hair because I procrastinate going to the hair dresser for years and then they keep cancelling on me.

We are not the same :(

I mean, this is all meant in jest of course.

But, I truly cannot understate how much willpower I had to use to make this appointment in the first place. I really had been putting if off for 1.5 years at least.

And then it keeps failing. It’s hilarious, but it’s also kind of frustrating.

If my hair dressers appointment next Saturday (3rd fucking attempt!!) for some reason falls through again, I don’t know how I will react.

Then I guess I’ll be doomed to have long hair with split ends forever.

JFC what is it with today? I should really record all my cycle rides because I could make an insane compilation just of today. Cycled to the city center: another shit ton of crazy situations with cars, people, other cyclists. Just a ride of 11 minutes!

You’re not going to believe this. The universe intervened and the hair dresser cancelled my appointment again! This also happened on Saturday.

wtf is going on y’all?! I need this goddamned hair CUT.

Almost got hit by a car today. Not once but twice!

Both times the driver had to yield to me but they saw me verrrrrrrry late. Luckily the speeds were low (they were looking to join a major road for which they had to cross the bike path)

Even in NL you need to be so vigilant at all times as a cyclist.

So you’re telling me that AI is “so good” at providing value. But how can it, when it’s trained on the outputs of the internet, which is for a large part memes and misinformation? How can it magically be more intelligent than the average output on the internet? Regression to the mean is a thing? I am just extremely skeptical about the whole thing.
Everybody so busy with AI increased productivity that they’re not asking themselves if they’re doing the right thing. Have fun crashing in a wall at high speeds I guess.

hi there.

on 2016-11-07 i was inspired to create this pair of diagrams, and posted them to my then twitter account. the tweet is long gone, but they must have struck a chord with some people, because the diagrams have long outlived it! i guess they're as relevant today as they were then.

so let me repost them here, in never-before-published high resolution.

if you care about copyright, you can attribute these with:

and ideally, please link to this post's canonical url (begins with social.noyu.me), but i don't care that much

i can't believe this was really from the year 6 B.C.G. (Before ChatGPT), god
@hikari absolute love the mutation of the iceberg meme there
@eater oh, I wonder if that was what inspired it. I'd probably seen that famous fake (photoshopped) photo of an iceberg. I'm not sure if the meme based on it existed at that point however
@hikari the meme has been a thing since 2012!
@eater ah yeah i think i've seen a really old version of it before
@hikari iirc there was like a REAALLLLY long Tumblr one
@hikari those were great! I remember getting annoyed by not finding them anymore!
@hikari With DNNs I'd say they're even more infallible
@hikari
It’s the “0 km … 1 km” that really clinches that second one
@hikari oh! I had no idea! Pretty sure i’ve used them in intro to ML lecture slides!

@hikari Hello, I find your model here useful, but as the diagrams are from way back in 2016, I decided to augment them with a third diagram, showing today's state of the art technology, "AI".

As this is a derivative work, I note the license, © 2016 hikari_no_yume, CC BY 4.0 (International) , still applies.

@hikari I remember seeing those as some point! nice :D
@hikari 2016?? talk about ahead of its time
@hikari tagging in @KathyReid… 👀 😜
@hikari I’m reminded of MTAA’s simple net art diagram from 1997 http://anthology.rhizome.org/simple-net-art-diagram
