after thinking abt it for a straight week I think the backrooms movie is an allegory for gen AI
the mannequins are horribly disformed copies of humans, the backrooms itself is like a machine badly trying to learn how the world works
clark is going through AI psychosis and murders two people, worships something that can only echo him, and is eventually consumed as a resource
his therapist, not understanding his disappearance for several months, realizes he has chosen something that never criticizes him over real human advice and nearly falls into the same spiral
realizing a lot of ppl have not internalized something very important that helped me stay employed:
just because it isn't your fault doesn't mean you couldn't have prevented it
