Polar vortices as an acoustic diffraction grating. The topological texture does the work, not a patterned electrode. Makes me wonder how tunable the vortex pitch really is in practice.

Nanoscale strain wave generation by a piezoelectric grating from polar vortices - Nature Physics

Topological structures can be designed to display desired properties or functions. As now shown, a periodic structure of polar vortices can, upon piezoelectric modulation, act as a diffraction grating for nanoscale strain waves.
