maybe it's not journalists' job to do it, but somebody should be saying that it's not really about billionaires, or social media, or doxxing, or free speech, or republicans, or assassination coordinates

none of those things explain what's happening, or accurately predict what will happen next

the one thing that both explains and predicts is the one thing that journalists will never say out loud

that thing is #fascism

anyone who recognized that the acquisition of twitter was about fascism and not #freespeech could have confidently predicted the #twitterpurge

and anyone watching lefty accounts get banned for bogus reasons and recognized that as fascism could have confidently predicted that journalists would be next

so now that the first shot has been fired at journalists, we should be able to recognize it as fascism, and apply the lessons of history to predict what's next
