This Holy Week, I invite you to consider making a retreat with us at Saint Meinrad Archabbey. From Holy Wednesday evening (April 5) through Easter Sunday (April 9), I’ll be leading a retreat titled, “Taken, Blessed, Broken, and Given.” Everyone is invited, especially those suffering and in need of the Lord’s healing.

On this day in 2019 (4 years ago already!), I attended my first papal Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. It was a celebration of #ConsecratedLife. In his homily, Pope Francis reminded us:

“To retrace in our mind the decisive moments of encounter with [Jesus], to renew our first love, perhaps writing down our love story with the Lord - this would be good for our consecrated life, so that it does not become a time that passes by, but rather a time of encounter.”

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Five years ago today I was naturalized as a U.S. citizen. Absolutely unbelievable how quickly time flies. Grateful for all the blessings, yet in all of these, the Scripture passage that keeps coming back to me is Philippians 3:20
Also, fun fact: A few weeks ago, some of our monks and coworkers attended the #SEEK23 conference. While there, they collected around 800 prayer request cards. Today we are placing a glass vase with these cards in front of our shrine and relic of St. Meinrad, offering them to the Lord through his intercession

Here at Saint Meinrad, today we celebrate our patronal feast, honoring the 9th century hermit, St. Meinrad. He is called a “Martyr of Hospitality” because even though thieves wanted to kill him (thinking he was hiding treasures in his hermitage), he still fed them and offered them prayers and kindness.

Today we especially pray for the monks of our motherhouse in Switzerland, Kloster Einsiedeln, as well as for our Benedictine #Oblates, who live out our charism of hospitality in the world

@kraft My apologies for the delayed response! I heard that we have our own set of propers here, but I haven’t seen the book yet. My impression is that each monastery (or most of them) has its own since we have some flexibility as to which monastic saints to celebrate and which prayers to use. Will let you know if I find out more. In the mean time, happy solemnity of St. Meinrad, martyr of hospitality!!!
@kraft Good question! Unfortunately, I don’t know the answer off the top of my head. Will ask around and will get back to you in a day or two
I found Pope Francis’ funeral homily for #BenedictXVI striking in its brevity and restraint. He doesn’t actually name Benedict until the end, yet his key words (“prayerful devotion,” “devotion sustained,” “spiritual accompaniment”…) clearly applied to BXVI. Overall, the word “devotion” (‘dedizione’ in the orig. Italian text) beautifully sums up BXVI’s service to the Church
Y’all, get yourselves a friend like St. Basil. #FriendshipGoals
