Looks like this might be the weekend where the other site loses significant functionality. I am sad. Mastodon has bad vibes. Maybe that will change but I've been around since 2017 and it feels like the lovechild of Slashdot, StackOverflow and Discord.
That is not a compliment.

The postal service exists to deliver letters and parcels to people
Not to make money for shareholders
The transport system exists to move people to where they need to go
Not to make money for shareholders
The water, gas, and electricity supplies exist to provide people vital utilities
Not to make money for shareholders
The healthcare system exists to ensure (and that's ENsure, not INsure) the health of the population
Not to make money for shareholders
Shareholders in vital public services are a vampiric drain on those services

Something I discovered the other day on accident is in Mastodon and derivative software, if you are sending someone a DM, and you spontaneously tag someone in the middle of the message, *that person now has read access to the DM in which they're mentioned*. This is a neat feature if you're using it on purpose but could be awkward if you're just trying to link an account and suddenly that account can see you talking about them…!
