Honestly, I’d miss plenty of content, and some of it great, too. But I can’t take opening this damn app anymore and being blasted with US everywhere, even in unrelated communities. I honestly feel sometimes like I should just quit Lemmy, or at least take a long break. But idk what to do in the bathroom lol

What are some things to know / keep in mind when helping someone install Linux? Installing for myself, I have to deal with my choices (like my recent “update without the recommended backup hoping my files are there when I get back”, Pop!_OS 24.04 COSMIC). But for others, I’dn’t like risking them facing my consequences. Any tips are welcome!

Not sure if this counts as a shower thought, but as someone who is not on social media, I am oftentimes clueless as to why trending pages are trending on Wikipedia, and can only hope information on the page helps add context. Would be nice having context easily available for popular pages.

Not really necessarily about buying, so I don’t know if this post fits here. But seems like a good place for the “discussion.” Let us compile a list of European content creators / artists. I find that the US may have a rather large influence online, via music and content, and art. Yet I feel like Europe also has great stuff that could be getting more attention. So, what are some good European musicians, YouTube channels, podcasts, etc.? No matter the language. Maybe do indicate the language, to help people filter through what they can understand. And maybe the country as well, or not. A short description and/or category is also nice, for people to know ahead of time if it is something they’re interested in. Dunno if a “similar to” would be a good adition, as in “for people who like” or “an alternative to” This could also be made into some sort of Awesome list on Git. Feels like that’d be cool. Or at least a list people could search and filter through. If anyone would like to take this idea and make it a thing, feel free! As per title, if you had to switch away from Spotify ASAP, what streaming service would you go with? Ideally something around the same price range, meaning the change won’t incur in extra expenses. Also good if the service does its job well: playing music and paying artists. Any feature parity with Spotify is a bonus, except podcasts, which don’t require a paid streaming service. Or audiobooks. Focus on music. No piracy either (it’s illegal). The more money going to artists, the better.
