RIP John R. Casani (Sept 17, 1932 – June 19, 2025), NASA engineer, project manager and deep space pioneer.

Casani started at JPL in 1956. He led the design teams for both the Ranger and Mariner series of spacecraft, held senior project positions on many of the Mariner missions to Mars and Venus, and was project manager for 3 trailblazing space missions: Voyager, Galileo, and Cassini. Casani became JPL’s first chief engineer in 1994.
