Is this the peak of DIY culture appealing to rugged American individualism as a way out of systemic failures in addressing a global catastrophe? Or have newspaper editors already turned their printers over to some generative AI bot spewing this kind of shit?

Got into a writing groove after a long time this morning, and this is what poured out:

Knocking on someone’s door should never be fatal. But this is America. https://link.medium.com/CvJDxazmqzb

Spent an intense and stimulating friday conducting a workshop on “Five Shifts in Research and Teaching Practices towards a More Inclusive and Ethical Ecology” for the Odum School of Ecology at UGA. It is built on the framework from my 2021 paper with Chris Trisos & Jess Auerbach: https://rdcu.be/c0SuI

Lovely to come home on a Friday of another stressful week to find this waiting for me on the porch! If y’all haven’t jumped into the Bangalore Detectives series by my friend Harini Nagendra, what are you waiting for?

I’m crying now. This is great Lance Reddick, who passed away too soon yesterday, speaking about his friendship with Keanu Reeves through the John Wick movies. 😭😭😭

I also hate economists, especially when they scratch their heads over why their models don’t match the real world like it’s the real world’s fault.

Steven Spielberg’s History With the Oscars Is Far Worse Than You Think — Slate

Inside nearly 50 years of frustration at the Academy Awards for the most popular director of all time.

Feels like a significant landmark for a five-fingered primate to have one’s work cited 5000 times, as much time as it has taken to reach this.

Just watched the truly mesmerizing film #AllThatBreathes and am sitting in awe at both the filmmaking and the incredible tale of the two Muslim brothers (Nadeem Shehzad, Mohammad Saud) who’ve dedicated their lives to rescuing kites & other raptors amid the pollution, urban decay, and religious political violence of Delhi. A must-see doc offering a unique look at #urbanecology of one of the largest megacities. Really deserving of Oscar nom and all the accolades.

If you have HBOMax, watch it now.
