Light-sheet imaging of biofilms at the air-liquid interface. Check out the distinct cell layers and bacteria zipping around like comets in the liquid 💫. Honored to be part of this amazing study by @rajutomer ’s lab and collaborators. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.05.31.543173v2

Toxin or substrate? That depends on where you are in the biofilm. Check out our latest preprint on cross-regulation between P. aeruginosa subpopulations! Great work by @BioCREvans, @MarinaSmiley6, Sean Asahara Thio, Alexa Price-Whelan with @TheMinLab! https://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.02.15.528762v1

Yeeeees that’s a #biofilm, a multi-species community of #bacteria growing as a macrocolony !! A majestic form of #life, a pure #art made by #microbes #MicrobialArt (picture taken by myself when I was @[email protected] working for @[email protected])

I am so excited this is out! We blocked electron transfer to nitrogenase and asked our bug to 're-wire' itself. Amazingly, it did it by co-opting an enzyme used in a different electron transfer pathway. Great work by grad student, Nathan Lewis!

Our paper with the @iyer-biswas lab published!!

Attempting 1st 🐘 thread but TLDR is: Behavior of idealized average cells 🧪🧪 does not accurately reflect the behavior of single cells 🦠🦠🔬🧵

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
