I can't speak to flatpak but as far as snaps are concerned, they are typically updated with a simple command and often, they're already updated (I know because I published a few snaps and I check to see where they are on my systems).
Snaps (and Flatpaks) provide devs a better platform to deploy software. IMO, snaps are "better" in that they don't require a GUI.
