Revisiting High Jump and Pole Vault Visualizations: Small Changes, Big Impact

During the Paris Olympics 2024, I created four animated visualizations of the high jump and pole vault finals. Here's a simple walkthrough of the process, showing how small tweaks to a well-known data table can create a more engaging visualization.

I wish the Men's High Jump final ended with 2 gold medals.
My visualization was prepared for shared medals. However it was not prepared for a jump-off. I expected to spend 5 minutes on exporting this and ended up adding the jump-off which took hours 😅
@tschach haha yes, I was thinking about the top
of the Empire State Building
Women's Pole Vault Final from yesterday. Now this is a proper multi-tiered cake chart with so many athletes in the final
I was making adjustments on this chart as I was watching the Pole Vault live stream (and updating my data file after every jump).
@netpraxis thanks! 🙂
New visualization for high jump results!
I'll call this the multi-tiered cake chart 🙂
Fencing visualization is tricky. The two opponents can hit (touch) one another at the same moment, so they both get a point at the same time in the animation too.
This is yesterday's Men's Épée Team Gold Medal Match
@GinevraCat thanks! 🙂
