Few things have had a more botched rollout than WEBP. I've seen first hand how patchy support by web apps is causing frustration for users who just want to post a funny animated image they found on google but get slapped with an "upload failed" error.
We could be making the web faster and cheaper RIGHT NOW but of course none of the big companies care about that.
