After my wife told me about Mastadon, I decided to join this group first as I did a Facebook post about finishing Americanah and it went pretty much unnoticed by my FB friends.

I like to read a mixture of non-fiction and fiction, especially sci-fi and fantasy fiction and history and science for non-fic.
@idrmfree Overall I enjoyed Americanah. I disliked many of the characters, including the main character. I felt like many of the characters had no free will and were puzzle pieces that the author had to shuffle around to make this or that point.
However the book had a lot of great ideas, and it was refreshing to see things from a different perspective. The situations were believable and authentic, even if it sometimes felt implausible that they could all happen to the same person.
