ps. while DJing/techno plays soooomewhat of a role here, themes of loss/family dynamics/conservative societies in modern times/discrepancies between the diaspora and local culture etc. really take the centre stage.

coincidentally, this was already the second movie that we've seen at brotfabrik in which sheep play an integral role. someone there seems to be a fan, though the resident pet animal there is a disinterested cat.

i was roaring with laughter during some scenes, while a few ones moisturised my eyes, so it was an overall wholesome, moving, and captivating watch. also gets a trophy for best use of brian eno's windows start-up sound and gmail address/password combo in movie history imho.

it is essentially a coming-of-age dramedy, but despite working within relatively narrow genre constraints, it did feel fresh. obviously, the setting contributes to that, and the movie seems quite conscious about how "exotic" the portrayed society and its culture will seem to western audiences, but it also explores north macedonia with a tenderness that is underscored by beautiful cinematography, a fantastic score, and plenty of great acting.
