@Annalee it's unfortunate that it also takes away the best example of the different Android and iOS architectures. Android's respects the user more by allowing you to use alternate SMS apps that supports Signal's ability to do a combined inbox.
This feature has never been present in the iOS version (which to be fair, probably gives them more confidence to remove it on Android).

This is one of the things that gets me the angriest. Society never had a chance to agree to this, to even discuss this, until it was too late.
