Political theory professor, husband, dad, native Detroiter, MSU & Duke alum. I publish on heroism, human rights, and Holocaust education. Words are from me, not the U.
I’m going to teach my kids that the phrase is “When life gives you lemons and limes, make Gatorade” and just see what happens next.

Of *course* billionaire parents buy their multi-millionaire son a governorship and then later that multi-millionaire and his billionaire parents buy another multi-millionaire the governorship so *that* multi-millionaire can make the former multi-millionaire governor a US Senator!

Anyway, the thing that’s actually amazing is how shameless all of these people are. The Nebraska GOP has such a low opinion of their constituents that they aren’t worried at all about how openly oligarchic this is.

It’s legitimately horrifying that someone is willing to stand up in the House of Representatives two years after Donald Trump attempted to overthrow our democracy and to excitedly put his name forward for Speaker of the House.

The fact that none of the Republican insurrectionists were held accountable for their role in undermining and then directly threatening the Republic has led us right back here. Disgusting and horrifying.

While the House Republicans continue to publicly humiliate their Party Leader, I poached some eggs.
I care a lot about public education. I’m an educator and know how crucial a robust public education is for a democracy. Whenever someone says “parents’ rights” in relation to education I want to know what exactly they have in mind because I think those are actually code words for banning books from school libraries, preventing the teaching of sex education or history that makes them uncomfortable, and diverting funds from public to private schools and homeschoolers. These attacks are escalating.

Why is this an article?

Like, why did a journalist write this up like it was a serious thing instead of the ravings of a profoundly unwell local man?

This is why Nebraska leads the nation in hate groups per capita and no one reported on any of it all of last year.

Lincoln man sues Nebraska officials, all of the state's county election commissioners alleging fraud

"As Mr. Hill said, this is just him venting and filing a lawsuit," said Attorney Patrick Guinan, who represents a bulk of the election commissioners.

That terrifying moment when you’ve been chatting away with your friends at the pool and then a random adult who works there asks, “Are these your kids?,” but then says, “They are the most well-behaved and polite kids!”

Great way to start 2023!

Our whole family had a fantastic afternoon yesterday delivering treats to Omaha first responders as part of the Jewish community’s annual “Operation Grateful Goodies.” We were sent to the airport to hand out boxes of homemade sweet to the airport fire station and the control tower staff, as well as another local fire station. And we got to see all the trucks!

A huge “thank you” to the organizers and to the staff at Beth El Synagogue for such a great way for us to give back on Xmas!

It’s really remarkable that, after everything we’ve learned since 2016, there are still so many people who are willing to do Russia’s dirty work of undermining our country for them. More remarkable still is that most of them aren’t even profiting from it; they’re just morons.
