Being with family, and getting to rest has been wonderful for my health. As the trip draws to a close, I find myself wishing I could bring a piece of Austin home. A piece of what I remember Austin being.

Tonight I realized - that part of Austin, the part I left in 2006, it really doesn’t exist anymore. The city has changed. Landmark stores are different. The culture feels different. And that’s both sad, and okay.

I realized I need to make new memories to add and build on the old ones. The past isn’t sacred and immutable, it’s one part of the foundation our lives are built on.

So tomorrow, my husband and I are going out again. We’re going to find new places, new memories to be a part of our lives. And we’ll find a piece of Austin, ancient and modern, to bring home with us.

It’s Christmas and I’m catching up on some unread comics. And wow why on earth did I skip out on Legion of X?

Si Spurrier does such a good job navigating a mutant take on restorative justice, and his casting choices are fantastic.

Nightcrawler. Juggernaut. Pixie. Dr. Nemesis (who’s growing psychedelic mushrooms out of his brain!). Lost. Fabian Cortez (a mutant I grew up absolutely despising). And of course, fucking Legion!

I don’t think I will ever get tired of the way Si writes David (legion). His complicated relationship with his dad, his relationship with Blindfold as one of the only people who can truly see him for him (and her for her).

The comic is _dense_ and not for the faint at heart. But if you want to read something that might Spark new ideas to take out into the world, I would read these two books.

(Start with Way of X and then get Legion of X btw! That’s the implied reading order).

Is real pretty this morning!

It's coming to the end of 2022 and I really should put together a list of my favorite books of the year. Here's the list so far:

The X-Line (just...all of it. If you're not reading it, please go do yourself a favor and start? Grab House of X / Powers of X and enjoy. It's all just...so many flavors of good, but these 3 in particular this year):

- X-Terminators
- X-Men Red
- Immortal X-Men

- FINE: A Comic About Gender

- Once Upon a Time at the End of the World

- Nightwing
- Superman Son of Kal-El

- Poison Ivy

- Eight Billion Genies

- Ducks: Eight Years in the Oil Sands

- Bolero (which I still haven't read, but Sloane is still berating me to read as her favorite book this year).

I'm sure I'll flesh this out more. In the meantime, if you were looking for things to try, mayyyybe give these a peak?

Hi there! Since twitter appears to be self-immolating quite a lot these days, I figured it was time to brush off the cobwebs of this account once again. If you've gotten a follow from me, or are following me back, hi! I'm Ko, or Nicky (or Nick if you catch me at work).

I'm a bunny, sometimes/formerly a lion who owns a comic shop in Seattle. I've got a pair of partners, @orrery who's here on Mastodon, and Iceweazel, who's not. We all live in a household together alongside @electrickeet, Orrery's partner and our metamour (and delightful uuuunicorn in their own right).

You can expect the occasional posts, a mix of SFW and NSFW content (CW'd where applicable), and general thoughts of a me here. I'm not super prolific, but when I do post it tends to be longer form stuff. Thank goodness for a big character limit I guess? o.o

Anywho, hi there and welcome to Masto!

Coming back after a long hiatus from Masto (to twitter of all things). Realizing there's some stuff I didn't want getting into my feed here, so I'm gonna do a little bit of follower trimming in the next day or two.

If I'm suddenly not following you, it's not you, it's me curating what information I get pulled into my feed.

Where are you on the duck-scale for how your day is going? I'm at about a 3 at the moment.
Thank you to the person loading their car outside the Northgate Target and blasting Let It Go for everyone. The number of people who burst into song was the hit of humor I needed today.
My wizards rep asked me to take pictures of our glass display cases so that she could include them as part of some promotional material going out to other stores. This ended with us having a conversation about how Nightwing's butt is canonically his most memorable feature and I'm not sad about this at all.

Important reminder that there are things out there in this world right now we can't control. Remember to focus on the things you can control.
