System updates seem to have borked the server running kitty.social a little more than usual. In the coming days, I'm going to be rearchitecting the server so that it can hopefully be a bit more stable. There'll probably be a couple of hours of downtime somewhere in the mix.

I'll be doing everything that I can to ensure data integrity and uptime (including backups and moving the service temporarily to another host), but if you don't have your data personally backed up, now would be a good time to do so.

We're not shutting down, no rumors please :))

@radmin I don't think it really lasted for all that long, I barely remember it... Oh, the beckon of additional features. We were actually on Pleroma before Misskey, before the drama, and then switched over when the database corrupted.

@nullkitty Just remember, unless your privacy settings are restricted, they can potentially crawl your public profile here as well, as well as any site that federates your data. It's not unfeasible whatsoever considering that Meta is federating activitypub.

If you're trying to remain internet-anonymous, your opsec is in your hands. Common reminder to keep your identities isolated, and if you've got something private, Fedi isn't the place for it, even in a DM, even if you trust your admin. Find a trusted E2E messaging app like Signal or Matrix and talk there.
I'm not vouching those apps either, I'm not currently on top of which apps are secure and which aren't, just trying to preach common sense lmao.
