@melodymacabre man, the last reply was supposed to be to you, I deleted the wrong name lol
And yeah, I get it. Every new site is jank for a bit, and I'm generally not an early adopter. The decentralized structure seems to have advantages, but I still have unanswered questions - what if a server goes down or vanishes without warning? What if the admin goes rogue? What power does the server owner have over your data and privacy? I come from forum culture, I gotta know this stuff D:
@artbysamwhite Yeah I can't tell if this place is unintuitive or just different from all the habits I've built up elsewhere, or if there's even a difference between those two lol
It seems a lot of the stuff they've understandably done to foster a safer community (no QRT equivalent for example) also makes it way harder to form a community at all? But I am still early days I am trying to give this place a chance and not immediately go "this sucks and I hate it"
Initial Mastodon impression: the fact that it doesn't show replies under the thing they're replying to and does not make it obvious when something is threaded makes this place bad for conversation which is the primary twitter draw for me, idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I use social media to interact, not throw messages in bottles out into the hashtag ocean, but maybe the site makes more sense the more you use it =\
